Medora Badlands A Great Vacation

The Medora Badlands is a unique tourist attraction! The history of Medora started back in 1883 when a wealthy Frenchman and his wife came to a Small town in North Dakota and built one of the most famous tourist attractions in Medora. This is called Chateau de Mores and it was used as a home and a hunting cabin. President Theodore Roosevelt loved the badlands in North Dakota and he came to hunt bison. Furthermore, he saw the opportunities of grazing cattle and invested in land. And he also started our national parks.

After decades later of deterioration in 1960 Harold Schafer came to the town and started to invest money.  He rebuilt the town and started the Theodore Roosevelt Medora Foundation. In addition, he started the retelling of Roosevelt’s life in North Dakota and this became the Medora Musical.   

There is an Incredible view of Theodore Roosevelt National Park behind it. In addition, Medora is rich in history and has a lot of activities and events. Also, there are buffalo, elk, mule deer, wild horses, mountain goats, prairie dogs, and a lot of other animals.

Medora Musical is an Amazing Event

The Medora Musical was started in 1965. The Burning Hill Singers will entertain you by singing and dancing on stage in a country western variety show at the Burning Hills Amphitheatre. This is a celebration of Theodore Roosevelt’s life. And at the end, there is a Big Fireworks Display! In addition, for a little extra charge take a behind the scene tour.

And You Can Have Dinner Before the Show

Here you will have an amazing buffet dinner at the Pitchfork Steak Fondue!  The chefs put steaks on pitchforks and fondue them. Furthermore, you will be eating this savoring steak overlooking the beautiful badlands at the Tjaden Terrace. Also, after you eat you can walk over to the amphitheater and watch an amazing show!      

Bully Pulpit Golf Course

Bully Pulpit is made in the North Dakota Badlands. This is an 18-hole golf course that is very beautiful. With the rugged buttes, this course was carved into the wild terrain. Also, this is a very challenging golf course and the views are Incredible! 

Little Bully Pulpit Mini-golf Course

Enjoy this new addition to the Medoras activities. This is an 18-hole of mini golf with themes from Medora. Furthermore, nine of the holes are built into the badlands.

Theodore’s Dining Room 

This is the restaurant connected to the Historic Rough Riders Hotel. You can get breakfast, dinner, brunch, and specialty drinks. Furthermore, this restaurant is vegetarian and vegan friendly, and gluten-free. Also, you can get walleye and bison too. In addition, you will experience all the characters of the old west.   

Pitchfork Steak Fondue

This place serves dinner with outdoor seating, is handicap accessible, has parking, and alcohol and you need reservations. We got our reservations with the Medora musical so you have dinner and then go and enjoy the musical. And this is within walking distance of the restaurant. They cook your steak on a pitchfork in 400-degree oil. In addition, with your dinner, you get potatoes, baked beans, slaw, garlic toast brownies, and doughnuts. Delicious!  

Boots Bar and Grill

Boots Bar and Grill is located in Medora and it serves lunch and dinner.  If you want a ribeye steak, buffalo or elk burger, or even a pizza, this is a perfect choice. Also, it has beer on tap that comes from Beaver Creek Brewery. So you can get a late-night drink. Boots is the biggest bar and grill in Medora and a hot tourist attraction!  

The Farmhouse Cafe

The Farmhouse Cafes food is delicious. This restaurant is known for its chocolate drizzled, deep-fried croissant french toast, omelets, and North Dakota sausage. Also, they have options for vegetarian and gluten-free. They serve breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner.  

Medora Uncork’d

Medora Uncork’d restaurant offers for starters small plates and salads, and then flatbreads, pizza, desserts, and food choices for kids. Furthermore, there is a selection of wine for the restaurant, and next door there is a tasting lounge where you pair wine and food.  

Hatlee & Brae Ice Cream

If you are in the mood for Ice Cream this is the place to go! Furthermore, they have hand-dipped ice cream, homemade donuts, snow cones, and espresso! Also, they serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. In addition, there are gifts for everyone in your family.

Elkhorn Quarters is newly remodeled on the south side of Medora. With a Medora western theme and the rooms are clean. Within walking distance from the town and minutes from Bully Pulpit Golf Course and the Maah Daah Hey Trail trailhead. The family room is bigger and there are bunk beds for the kids! And they have an outdoor pool! They opened spring of 2022.

Medora Badlands Campground

This Campground is located on the west side of Medora and is the perfect place for adventure in the Badlands. They are both along the Little Missouri River where you can watch the Badlands sunrise. Opens up between May 13 through October 1.

This trail is the best track and will be an incredible experience! And this is 150 miles long so whether you hike, bike ride, or ride horseback you will enjoy the beautiful scenery! This is open from dawn to dusk depending on the weather!
